The first hospital shadowing day always carries a particular tension. Volunteers arrive curious and energized, but also aware that they are stepping into a space where every detail matters.

Meeting the UMC teams and observing early workflows helped turn that nervous energy into focus. The hospital setting exposed students to the discipline, structure, and communication that underpin advanced care.

By the end of the day, the value of the experience was already clear: shadowing created a new kind of mission learning, one built less on doing and more on watching closely enough to understand what excellence looks like.
